Jean's father was William Rankin and her mother was Victory Victora Alcorn Alcoran.  Her paternal grandparents were James Rankin and Jean Jane Campbell. She had a brother and five sisters, named James, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Ruth.
