Francis was born about 1632 in London, England.  Francis' father was Capt Francis Poythress and his mother was Mary Frances Sloman Soloman.  His paternal grandparents are Joshua Poythress and Peachy; his maternal grandparents are John Sloman Soloman and Katherine Eppes. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas and Jane or Mary.  He is the oldest of the four children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Thomas, Joshua and Mary.
