Larkin was born in 1780 in Culpeper Co.Virginia.  Larkin's father was Zachariah Petty and his mother was Hannah Elizabeth Marshall.  His paternal grandparents were John Petty and Rebecca Sims Simms; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Marshall and Sarah. He had four brothers named Abner, Marshall, Jesse Marshall and George Brown.  He died at the age of 64 on June 5th, 1844 in Fayette Co. KY.
