Abner was born in 1742 in Richmond Co VA.  Abner's father was Zachariah Petty and his mother was Hannah Elizabeth Marshall.  His paternal grandparents were John Petty and Rebecca Sims Simms; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Marshall and Sarah. He had four brothers named Marshall, Larkin, Jesse Marshall and George Brown.  He died at the age of 57 on October 14th, 1799 in Culpeper Co.Virginia.
