James was born in 1790.  James' father was Talmuches Hatcho Hadjo x Peter M'Queen, chief of the Tallapasses, an old Red Stick. led attack Ft. Mims McQueen (Red Stick Creek) and his mother is Elizabeth Betsy Durante (Creek).  His paternal grandfather was James Scottish officer who jumped ship in Pensacola in 1716. McQueen and his paternal grandmother is tallassee woman; his maternal grandparents are Benjamin Peter Durante (Huguenot) and Sophie McGillivray (Wind Clan of the Creek Nation). He has three sisters named Millie, Nancy and Tallassee. He has a half-brother and a half-sister, named Muscogee and Sophia.
