Col William North Marshall

William North was born about 1750 in Little Cub Creek, Lunenburg Co. VA. William North's father was John Wilkins Marshall Sr and his mother was Hannah Baldwin. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Marshall and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Thomas, John Wilkins, Benjamin Wilkins, Samuel, Hannah, Mary and Nancy. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died before September 2nd, 1805 in Charlotte County, Virginia.

  Note: William North I was a community leader. He served in the militia, thus acquiring the title "C olonel". He would have been 25 at the time of the War of 1812, in which Kentucky regiments pl ayed a key part in the western theater, but no records of his war service have been found. I n the 1840's and 1850's he was elected for several terms in the State Assembly and the Stat e Senate and traveled frequently to Frankfort for its sessions. Speculation has it that som e of his children traveled with him to Frankfort and stayed at the boardng house a block fro m the state capital then run by Edwina Barstow's mother, Eleanor Collette Barstow (later Conn ery). Whatever the circumstances, William II and Edwina met and married and started a famil y in Taylor County, where WIliam II became the new countys first sheriff.
