William was born in 1797.  William's father was William Both are buried in the Cross Creek Cemetery Marshall and his mother was Ann Both are buried in the Cross Creek Cemetery Crawford.  His paternal grandparents were William Marshall and Mary Speer; his maternal grandparents were Thomas taken by indians Crawford and Judith. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Crawford "insane", Thomas the Venerable of Cross Creek, Stewart C, Elizabeth, Judith, Mary Polly "idiot", Margaret, Ann Jones, Ruth, Louisa and Barbara Jane.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 77 in 1874.
