Samuel was born on February 1st, 1743.  Samuel's father was Abraham Marshall Jr and his mother was Rachel Carter.  His paternal grandparents were Abraham  distiniguished botanist and horticulturist Marshall and Mary Hunt; his maternal grandparents were George Carter and Elizabeth Tull. He had four sisters named Elizabeth, Mary, <Unknown> and <Unknown>.  He died at the age of 74 on July 16th, 1817 in West Bradford Twp., Chester Co., Pa.
