Robert Franklin was born in 1779 in Falling River, Bedford Co. VA.  Robert Franklin's father was Col Thomas Marshall and his mother was Elizabeth Franklin.  His paternal grandparents were John Wilkins Marshall Sr and Hannah Baldwin.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 38 in 1817 in Green co., Kentucky.
