Oliver was born about 1802.  Oliver's father was Isaac Marshall and his mother was Mary Collier.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel of Westmorland Co VA Marshall and Phila Phile Phili Phillys Lang; his maternal grandparents were Kendle of the Peninsular Collier and Sarah Byrd. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James Collier, John, Isaac, Clarissa, Elizabeth Lefel and Sally.
