Mason was born on March 12th, 1844.  Mason's father was James M Marshall and his mother was Elizabeth Rush.  His paternal grandparents were William Marshall Sr and Mary C Beans Bane Banes. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Margaret, Sara and Rosa E.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named William Abraham, James Phineas, John M, Susan Mary and Hester Ann Hettie.  He died at the age of 80 on December 17th, 1924.
