Joseph F was born on August 21st, 1814.  Joseph F's father was William Furman Marshall and his mother was Susanna Trimmer.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Marshall and unk; his maternal grandparents were Johannes of Amwell Trimmer and Susanna Servis. He had three brothers and five sisters, named John T, Charles, Anson, Amy, Mariah, Susan, Rebecca and Amanda.  He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
