Joseph born Albemarle was born in 1780. Joseph born Albemarle's father was Richard Marshall and his mother was Mary Boswell. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Marshall Jr and Elizabeth poss Sullivan Griffith; his maternal grandparents were Matthew Boswell Sr and Sarah. He had five brothers and two sisters, named James, Henry, Richard, Thomas, William P, Mary Polly and Elizabeth Betsey. He was the oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 73 in 1853.
