John was born on April 2nd, 1620 in Witton Le Wear, Durham, England.  John's father was Thomas POSS Marshall and his mother was Janet Fidler.  His paternal grandparents were Guy Marshall and Agnes. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Richard, George, Elizabeth, Ann and Jane.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
