John was born on January 24th, 1756 in Albemarle Co. , VA.  John's father was Gilbert poss N Marshall II and his mother was Martha Roan ROANOKE??? Rowan.  His paternal grandparents were Sir Gilbert Marshall Sr and Lady Catherine Fitzpatrick; his maternal grandparents were William Rowan and Jane Marshall. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named William, Gilbert died: 1782 - Battle of Blue Lick, James Isaac, Jane "Jeanie", Mary, Catherine, Martha, Hannah, Elizabeth, Margaret and Sarah.  He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 54 on August 10th, 1810 in Warren Co., Ky.
