Jane was born in 1817.  Jane's father was James* founded Marshalltown Iowa Marshall and her mother was Jane McNary.  Her paternal grandparents were William Marshall and Mary Speer; her maternal grandparents were John McNary and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and five sisters, named William, John, George, Esther, Lucinda, Agnes, Mary and Margaret.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
