James Newton was born on June 22nd, 1837 in Polk County, Missouri.  James Newton's father was John different DNA Marshall and his mother was Elizabeth Potter.  His paternal grandparents were Indian man (metis) and Sarah family listed here is family lore Marshall; his maternal grandparents were William S Potter and Ruth Mackey. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Elias M, William Jasper, John Wesley, SarahAnna, Ruthy Jane and Martha Emeline.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 52 on October 14th, 1889 in Newton Co. Missouri.
