Ellen was born about 1813 in VA.  Ellen's father was Thomas Marshall and her mother was Nancy Ancel.  Her maternal grandparents are Edward Ancel and Sarah Catterton. She had a brother and two sisters, named William E, Gaity Gantha and Nancy.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
