David was born in 1792.  David's father was Lindsey Marshall and his mother was Nancy Mercer.  His paternal grandparents were James Marshall and Jane Lindsey. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, William V, Lemon, Ruth, Rebecca and Elizabeth.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 50 in 1842.
