Sarah was born in 1806 in KY.  Sarah's father was Michael Layman and her mother was Sarah Sturm.  Her paternal grandparents were Joachim Layman and Sarah Grooms. She had three brothers named Joachim, Jacob and Reason Thomas.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
