Reason Thomas was born on January 8th, 1819 in Spring Lick, Grayson, KY.  Reason Thomas' father was Michael Layman and his mother was Sarah Sturm.  His paternal grandparents were Joachim Layman and Sarah Grooms. He had two brothers and a sister, named Joachim, Jacob and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 73 in February 1892.
