William was born about 1775 in NC.  William's father was James Lanford and his mother was Mary Frances Lowrey.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Lowrey and Ann. He had two brothers and a sister, named Lewis, John and Sallie.  He was the third oldest of the four children.  He died on February 2nd, 1863 in Spartanburg SC.
