John was born on August 16th, 1780.  John's father was James Lanford and his mother was Mary Frances Lowrey.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Lowrey and Ann. He had two brothers and a sister, named Lewis, William and Sallie.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 91 on October 27th, 1871.
