Joseph was born about 1805.  Joseph's father was Joseph "Mushkedewinn (Prairie MAN)" DUSQUENE and his mother was Pimegeezhigoqua Blackfish.  His paternal grandparents were Capt Isadore (french indian interpreter) Chain Chene Chesne and PekowiShawnee Woman; his maternal grandparents were Pah-e-a-ta-hea-se-ka "Chinugalla or MKADDAY-WAH-MAY-QUAH" Blackfish and WATMEME. He had three sisters named Isabella "MUSK-KO-DENCE" LAPRAIRIE, Susan LAPRAIRIE and John Baptiste. He had a half-brother named David J. "HE-LAH-KAH-ME".
