John Baptiste's father was Joseph "Mushkedewinn (Prairie MAN)" DUSQUENE and her mother was Pimegeezhigoqua Blackfish.  Her paternal grandparents were Capt Isadore (french indian interpreter) Chain Chene Chesne and PekowiShawnee Woman; her maternal grandparents were Pah-e-a-ta-hea-se-ka "Chinugalla or MKADDAY-WAH-MAY-QUAH" Blackfish and WATMEME. She had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Isabella "MUSK-KO-DENCE" LAPRAIRIE and Susan LAPRAIRIE. She had a half-brother named David J. "HE-LAH-KAH-ME".
