Major G was born about 1818.  Major G's father was Stephen Herring Grooms and his mother is Winifred Winders.  His paternal grandparents are Elijah Grooms and Caty Herring; his maternal grandparents are John Winders and Tabitha New. He had two brothers and a sister, named Reason Rezin Edward, James Marshall and Susan.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died about 1907.
