Franklin was born on February 17th, 1837.  Franklin's father was James Lamborn Marshall and his mother was Mariah  Maria Gillingham.  His paternal grandparents were Moses maybe JR Marshall Sr and Lydia Lamborn; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Gillingham and Frances Fannie Milner. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Albert Gillingham, John G, Simon, George L, ELEANOR (ELLEN), Mahlon and Nancy.  He is the seventh oldest of the eight children.
