William was born about December 1737.  William's father was Brig. Gen. James Ewing and his mother is Patience Wright.  His paternal grandparents were Dr Thomas  Erwin of Lancaster Ewing and Susanna Howard; his maternal grandparents are John Wright and Eleanor. He has a sister named Eleanor.  He is the older of the two children.
