Mary was born on July 8th, 1818.  Mary's father was John Comegys and her mother was Elizabeth Marshall.  Her maternal grandparents were William Marshall and Mary C. Banes. She had a brother and four sisters, named William B., Ann, Jane Burns, Elizabeth and Margaret Hannah.  She is the fifth oldest of the six children.
