William Anderson was born in 1787 in Goochland County, Virginia.  William Anderson's father was Hughes Bowles and his mother was Mary Shipp.  His paternal grandparents are Gideon Bowles and Ann Charity Hughes. He had a half-brother named Powhatan Powhatten H.  He died at the age of 65 in 1852 in Owsley, KY.
