Edward was born about 1733.  Edward's father was John Boswell and his mother was Sarah Harris.  His paternal grandparents were William Boswell and <Unknown>. He had five brothers and six sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Matthew, William, John, Charles, Joseph, Mary Ann, Selina, Ann, Sarah, Elizabeth, Violetta and unk.  He was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.
