Count Dietrich of Werben

Dietrich was born in 1137 in Dresden, Sachsen, Preussen, Germany.¹ Dietrich's father was Duke Albrecht (The Bear) of Saxony I and his mother was Sofie Brandenburg. His paternal grandparents were Count Otto (The Rich) of Ascania and Princess Eilika of Saxony. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Otto, Hermann, Siegfried, Heinrich, Adalbert, Bernhard, Christine, Gertrud, Hedwig and Adelheid. He was the third youngest of the eleven children.
