Count Gotwald of Henneberg I

Gotwald was born in 1065 in Wurzburg, Unterfranken, Bavaria.¹ Gotwald's father was Count Poppo of Henneberg I and his mother was Princess Hildegard of Thuringia. His paternal grandparents were Count Otto of Grabfeld and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Count Ludwig (mit Dem Barte) of Thuringia and Countess Cacilie of Sangerhausen. He had two brothers named Godebert and Poppo. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 79 in 1144.¹
