Phillipa was born on June 24th, 1310 in Valenciennes, France.1   Phillipa's father was Count of Hainault William D'Avesnes III and her mother was Joan Jeanne de Valois.  Her paternal grandparents were Count of Flanders, Count of Hainault Jan Avesnes of Holland II and Philippa of Luxemburg; her maternal grandparents were Count of Valois, Anjou & Maine Charles of Valois III and Margaret of Naples. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Guillaume, Jean, Louis, Margaretha, Elizabeth, Johanna and Agnes.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 59 on August 15th, 1369 in Windsor Castle, Berkshire, England.  She was buried in Westminster Abbey, London, England.2 1
