Hildegarde was born in 0944 in Laon, Aisne, Picardy, France.1   Hildegarde's father was Kng Louis (d'Outremer, Transmarinus) of France IV and her mother was Gerberga of Saxony.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles (The Simple) Carolingian III and Princess of England Edgiva of Wessex; her maternal grandparents were Holy Roman Emperor Henry (The Fowler) of Germany I and Saint Matilda Of Ringleheim. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Lothaire, Charles, Carloman, Louis, Henri, Matilda, Raingarde and Alberade.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Henri, Ludwig, Alberade, Gerberga, Wiltrudede and Adelaide.
