Matilda was born in 0943 in Laon, Aisne, Picardy, France.1   Matilda's father was Kng Louis (d'Outremer, Transmarinus) of France IV and her mother was Gerberga of Saxony.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles (The Simple) Carolingian III and Princess of England Edgiva of Wessex; her maternal grandparents were Holy Roman Emperor Henry (The Fowler) of Germany I and Saint Matilda Of Ringleheim. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Lothaire, Charles, Carloman, Louis, Henri, Hildegarde, Raingarde and Alberade.  She was the third oldest of the nine children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Henri, Ludwig, Alberade, Gerberga, Wiltrudede and Adelaide.  She died at the age of 37 on January 27th, 0980 in Arles, Toulouse, Bourgogne, France.2
