Elen was born in 1206 in Caernarvonshire, Wales.1   Elen's father was Llewelyn (The Great) ap Iorweth and her mother was Joan Plantagenet.  Her paternal grandparents were Prince of Gwynedd Iowerth Drwyndwn ap Owain and Marared verch Madog; her maternal grandparents were King of England John (Lackland) Plantagenet of England and Agatha de Ferrers. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Dafydd, Tegwared-Y-Baiswen, Llywelyn, Angharad, Margred and Helen.  She was the second oldest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Fawr and Ddu, The Dark Eyed.  She died at the age of 47 on October 25th, 1253 in Chester, Cheshire, England.1
