William, known as The Great, was born in 1270 in Radcliffe Tower, Lancashire, England.1   The Great's father was Richard de Radclyffe and his mother was Margaret le Boteler.  His paternal grandparents were Robert de Radclyffe and Amibil de Trafford; his maternal grandparents were Ralph de Boteler III and Maud de Pantulf. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Robert, John, Richard, Margery and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 63 in 1333 in Edgeworth, Bolton, Lancashire, England.2
