Reuben Richard was born on August 11th, 1848 in , Lawrence County, Missouri, USA.1 Reuben Richard's father was Richard Shipley and his mother was Julinda Windom. His paternal grandparents were Richard SHIPLEY and Henrietta HUGHES. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William Preston, Benjamin Rush, Joseph Douty, George, Nancy Ann, Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Susan. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Johnnie W., Eddie, Ellen Jane, Hannah Rettie, Lulla May and Etta Eliza. He died at the age of 84 on September 1st, 1932 in Brock, Nemaha County, Nebraska, USA.2 General Notes
Reuben Richard Shipley was a blacksmith. They moved to Brock, Nebraska from Iowa in 1889.
Lynne Chandler says the birth date for Reuben Richard Shipley is the 21st of July, 1848 but the August date came from the Bible of Etta Shipley Owens as quoted to her great grandson, Rick Albright by her daughter, Mrs. Burnette Wishmeyer, now deceased. The Bible’s whereabouts today are unknown to Rick.

Bette Phillips said, "Reuben Richard had red hair which my Mother inherited. I also have a small picture of the two of them showing he had lots of hair and a handlebar moustache. They were married in Corydon, Iowa on Christmas Day in 1873. Their first two children were born in Iowa. In 1876 they moved to Marysville, Kansas where the rest of their children were born. According to my Grandmother, Effie Belle Shipley, they lived in a log cabin the first few years and moved to Brock, Nebraska where my Great Grandfather Reuben Richard was a blacksmith. I never saw my Great Grandfather but I did see my Great Grandmother several times. She lived with her daughter Pearl who
was her youngest daughter. She died in 1937."
