Porter, known as Porter, was born in 1831 in Overton Co., TN.. Porter's father was James NORMAN and his mother was Sarah A. HARRISON. His paternal grandparents were William NORMAN and Mary Polly KEMP. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William B., Jesse D., Joseph H., Louisa T., Mary J., America C. and Celia M.. He was the third oldest of the eight children.-
