Preston NORMAN 
Preston was born in 1840. Preston's father was Hardy (Hardy) and his mother was Matilda -Beamer BANNER. His paternal grandfather was William NORMAN. He had three brothers and a sister, named Henry F., Alexander, H. M. and Sarah S.. He died at the age of 72 in 1912.General Notes
Volunteered at Surry 5/20/1861 in one of the first groups to organize in the county for the war. He served as a nurse at hospitals and later as a division guard. He suffered a wound to his left hand on 6/3/1864 at Cold Harbor, VA. and some of the fingers on that hand were amputated. He took the Oath of Allegiance at Appomattox Court House on 4/9/1865.
