Joan was born about 1323 in Mobberley, Bucklow, Cheshire, Eng. .¹ Joan's father was William Mobberley and her mother was Mrs. Maud Mobberley. Her paternal grandparents were William Sheriff of Cheshire De Mobberley and Maude Downs. She had a brother and six sisters, named William, Emma, Mary, Ellen, Agnes, Elizabeth and Cecily. She was the third oldest of the eight children.
