Joseph Lafayette was born on October 28th, 1881 in Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.1 Joseph Lafayette's father was Thomas Henry Kimes and his mother was Alice Shipley. His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Franklin Shipley and Mary Sharp Lester. He had five brothers and a sister, named James Cornelius, F. M., George Washington, Charles W., Benjamin Valentine and Dora Gertrude. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 73 on February 14th, 1955 in , Placer County, California, USA. He was buried in Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery, and Mausoleum, Sacramento, Sacramento County, California, USA.1 1 General Notes
