Alice was born about 1595 in Of, Brightley, Devonshire, England. Alice's father was John GIFFORD and her mother was Honor EARLE. Her paternal grandparents were John GIFFORD and Mary GRANVILLE. She had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Arthur, Thomas, William, John, Joan, Maria, Margaret, Elizabeth and Honor. She was the youngest of the eleven children.
