Mary Josephine was born in March 1896 in Missouri. Mary Josephine's father was Rev Thomas Andrew Foster and her mother was Mary Magdalene White. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Dudley Foster and Elizabeth Mitchell. She had two brothers and a sister, named Knox, Dudley Ross and Sydna Elizabeth. She was the second youngest of the four children. She had three half-brothers named Thomas Lawrence, Willard Robert and Henry Clay.-
