His paternal grandmother was Susan P Foster. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Harvey J, Alonzo Clayton (Lonzo), Aut Ernest, Burr Rankins, Curtis Moss (Dink), Rogerlie, Rose E and Choice Belle.
