Robert FitzHugh I 
Robert was born in 1072 in Malpas, Whitchurch, Cheshire, England.1 Robert's father was Earl of Chester Hugh (le Gros) d'Avranches and his mother was Ermentrude de Clermont. His paternal grandparents were Vicomte d'Avranches Richard le Goz and Emma de Conteville; his maternal grandparents were Count Hugh De Clermont I and Margaret de Montdidier. He had a brother and three sisters, named Lupus, Maud, Helga and Geva. He was the second oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 48 on November 25th, 1120.2 General Notes
Robert, the natural son of Hugh Lupus, 1st Earl of Chester, died without male issue, and it is agreed by all parties and the best authorities that he had two daughters: Letitia, who was the wife of Richard Patric, whose descendant carried one moiety of Malpus on down to Hugh Sutton. Mabilia,the other co-heiress, was wife of William Belward. From this period to the commencement of the inquisitions, the descent of the Malpus share of the Barony, is preserved by deeds and by pleas relative to the contest between the rightful heirs.
