Benjamin Ryan Despain 
Benjamin Ryan was born on August 11th, 1826 in Green Co, KY. Benjamin Ryan's father was William Despain and his mother was Sarah Lewis. His paternal grandparents were James Scott DeSpain and Susan (Sally) Peterson. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Jeremiah (?), James, Lewis T, William "Buck", Susan, Rachel, Lucinda, Sarah and Suellen (Luella). He was the fourth youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 58 on April 5th, 1885 in Buchanan Co, MO.General Notes
Benjamin married Harriet Pickerle, duaghter of Simon and Mary (Hodgebeth) Pickeral, 22 Dec 1848 in Buchanan Co, MO.

In the 1900 Washington Twp, Buchanan Co, MO, Benjamin and Harriet had 11 children with 7 children living. This seems to be in error as Dixie <dixiebel@vum.com> listed 13 children with 9 living in 1900.
Some of the information on Benjamin's family came from Ellye DeSpain, wife of George Martin DeSpain, a great grandson.
Dixie (Shafer) Winkler, whose husband is a gggrandson, stated that many Despains are buried in the Despain Cemetery in the French Bottom area of St. Joseph, MO.
