Andrew served in the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War. He was mustered in 5 Aug 1861 and served as a Pvt in the 9th Brigade, Lamar Co. TX, Beat No. 2. This information is recorded on a Muster Roll and Election Return from the Texas State Archives for the Texas Militia, Company for Lamar County, Texas, Beat No. 2, 9th Brigade of the State of Texas; officer selected on 5 Aug, 1861, in Lamar County; company enrolled by T.L. Click; J. J. Martin elected Captain commanding.
His marriage is recorded in the "Lamar County Texas Marriage Records, Book One and Two, 1841-1858."
He is listed on the 1860 Lamar County Federal Census with his wife, Mary, and three sons, J.H., W.A., and T.J. in Precinct 1, Family 200-200, $500/725. Living in Princinct 1, Family 198-198 is his father William with his 2nd wife, Lavina, and four youngest children, H. H. (Hiram Harvey), E. (Ellen), Lydia, and William.
When Andrew died the family must have been living in the Sylvan community as he is buried in the Sylvan Cemetery. Andrew and Mary's son, John, died three years later and is buried beside his father. Sylvan Cemetery is located east of Paris, Texas near the town of Blossom.

Mary survived her husband by more than twenty years. The family evidently moved from Sylvan communuity to the Shady Grove community located SE of Paris, Texas, about half way between Paris and Deport. When Mary died, she was buried beside her grandmother, Frances McClure, and near her step-mother-in-law, Lavinia Clement, in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
