John Bertram

John was born in 1192 in Mitford Castle, Morpeth, Northumberland, England.¹ John's father was Robert Bertram I and his mother was Mable de Clare. His paternal grandparents were Richard Bertram I and Menebell Gisulph; his maternal grandparents were 2nd Earl of Hertford Roger (The Good) de Clare and Maud de St. Hilaire. He had three brothers and a sister, named Richard, Christian, Robert and Aelina. He was the second oldest of the five children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Robert, Philip, William, Roger and Alice.
